HIRONO STATEMENT ON LINGLE RUNNING TV ATTACK ADS ON 9/11 ANNIVERSARY

September 11, 2012   ·

HONOLULU – U.S. Democratic Senate nominee Mazie Hirono released the following statement after learning that Linda Lingle’s campaign continued to run attack ads on television today, the anniversary of 9/11.

“I told my campaign that we will not run our TV ads on the September 11th anniversaries.  This is not a day for political ads – this is a day to remember the victims and their families and honor the heroes of both Hurricane Iniki and the tragic 9/11 terrorist attacks.  In a commendable show of bipartisan unity, President Obama and Governor Romney chose not to run their TV ads today as well.  I had hoped Linda Lingle would also suspend her TV ads, or at least her negative ads – but she makes her own choices and has to run her own campaign as she sees fit.”

Earlier this morning, following a KITV segment on “Remembering Iniki,” one of Lingle’s attack ads aired during the commercial break (click here to watch).  Lingle’s attack ads have continued running on all of the other networks as well today.

In contrast, Mazie Hirono and Senate candidates across the country joined President Obama and Mitt Romney in
choosing not to run political attack ads today.
