HONOLULU -- Congresswoman Mazie Hirono today thanked the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) for its endorsement of her candidacy for the U.S. Senate, LCV joins other leading environment organizations Sierra Club and Ocean Champions in endorsing Congresswoman Hirono's U.S. Senate bid.
"I am honored to receive the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters. It serves as a statement about the work I have done to protect our unique island environment, and my commitment to help build a clean energy economy and sustainable use of our natural resources," said Hirono.
LCV is a nationally recognized and respected non-profit organization that works to turn environmental values into national priorities.
"The LCV is keenly aware of what is at stake during the upcoming elections," said Representative Hirono. "Attacks on environmental laws like the Clean Air and Water Acts will continue to erode the protections we have and the League knows how important it is to keep environmental champions in Congress."
In its endorsement announcement today, LCV President Gene Karpinski said, "Representative Hirono understands that investments in a clean energy future are investments in well-paying, stable jobs for generations to come."
The announcement noted Mazie's stellar lifetime score of 96% on the LCV National Environmental Scorecard for her "record of supporting numerous pro-environmental bills on climate change, clean air and clean water and her work in holding corporate polluters responsible for their actions."
