NEW POLL, ENDORSEMENT, FUNDRAISING LEADS GIVE EDGE TO MAZIE HIRONO IN FINAL 8 DAYS OF CAMPAIGN
HONOLULU, HI – Heading into the final week of the 2012 general election campaign, momentum continues to grow for Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Mazie Hirono. This past weekend, Hawaii’s largest statewide paper, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser endorsed Hirono, stating she would best stand up for the middle class. Additionally, the Star-Advertiser released its own poll showing Hirono with a 22-point lead over Republican Linda Lingle—results consistent with Hirono’s internal polling. Despite trailing Lingle in fundraising for much of the campaign, this weekend it was also reported that Hirono outraised Lingle for the second consecutive reporting period.
Betsy Lin, Hirono’s campaign manager stated: “The news over the weekend is encouraging but our campaign is taking nothing for granted over the next eight days. We are focused on getting out the vote on November 6th to make sure Hawaii’s next US Senator is someone who will best represent Hawaii’s values, be a partner for Senator Inouye and we re-elect President Obama.”

“As a member of Congress, Mazie Hirono has upheld the values of her party and, in most cases, those are the positions that do most to strengthen the middle class. Those middle class voters in Hawaii can support her and know where she stands. Judging by her past history on the Hill, she stands with them.”
